Romans 10:13, “For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” but in Matthew 19:16-17 Jesus said if u want to enter life, keep the commandments.” and one verse say that only one who does the will of the father will enter the kingdom of heaven

Adam, I was in and out of church for much of my life, but didn't really accept Christ until I was 45. And boy did I have questions, lots of questions. I wanted to be more like Christ, wanted to change, believed in Him. But I had a terrible time believing He really loved me with all the stuff I was enduring and with all I had endured that made it hard for me to believe in and accept real love. I asked a lot of questions too. Sometimes the answers I got only made me feel even worse. I was told that I needed to have faith, and told I was double minded because I had a hard time believing God was going to turn anything around in my life and that I was just relegated to a life of nothing but suffering and turmoil.
Ask, seek and knock and it will be given. People think God does it all. He does call us, ergo he put me, and your friend, in church, to hear His Word. But we have a part to play. We need to seek. If your friend is not daily in the Word and seeking, the answers can't come. I still have a lot of questions myself, but I'm learning to be content with just not knowing "everything". Through all my difficulties, one would think I'd have a harder time trusting God, but I'm actually growing to trust Him more each day. I spent around 3 years crying for a revelation of God's love before I finally received it. Or at least before I finally recognized it. I think your friend needs to start by not calling himself an unbeliever. If he is an unbeliever, he needs to be upfront with his church and stop serving there. But I think he serves and goes because deep down he does believe. He just hasn't had a revelation of that yet.
Thanks a lot. I understand things better now :)
