What would you consider to be the most important and effective witness of the Christian? What, in the witness of the Christian could be the most damaging to others?

Loving.
Presence of it for question 1.
Absence of it for question 2.
Yup. It seems intellect is frowned upon. Short is best.
We can be loving but fail to show love.
One can have a cold heart beneath sweet words; a warm heart beneath bitter, angry words.
Anger is a shield against hurt.
We must learn to say, This is my limit and I will not tolerate this anymore. That can be done in love. Sometimes it has to be that way.
Love the short answers
love and demonstration of same through manner of living - unconditional love to be precise.
damaging - pushing God and Jesus too much - not allowing others to find their way
Amen, Choco, especially the part of someone spouting out the words, Are you born again, just because you are disagreeing with them about a certain belief which they hold which doesn't appear to exactly be in alignment with Scripture. In fact it just recently happened to me.
I was reminded that I had told someone that I believe that the Word is not only infallible and the inspired Word of God, but also it is “without error” and then I was asked how do I interpret a particularly difficult Scripture which the person was obviously taking out of context and then I was told "this is what He “Jesus” says that a believer will do…….., are you a believer?"
I've decided I am not.
Additionally, the very same person left a comment on my page saying that I want to be argumentative and he "will not engage in conversation that seem to be beyond your comprehension of what I am saying" simply because I disagree with his opinions about what the Scripture teaches. Then he says "Let us forget the past and press on toward the mark, for the prize of the high calling of God, in Christ Jesus."
Really? Does anyone have all the truth in hand? It takes two to argue and why am I in error because I disagree with a certain doctrine that is a very questionable teaching anyway? I was only discussing the topic and he made it personal, not me.
That is a great Christian witness.
Amanda,
Your own words above state"It takes two to argue." You need to stop this rant and let it go. There are going to be various views on many different topics on AAG. Some we will agree with and some we will not agree with. There will be some who come and will cross the line and then the leadership team willl deal with them, that is our responsibility. Such is the nature of an open community with limited restrictions. At any point you could have stopped responding in that forum, but could not ... why? And when you respond and the other person responds back you are surprised? Stop the rant! That is not what these forums are for or this community is about.

I apologize. I know I did keep responding. I will try to work on that and it does take two to argue and I know I am an argumentative person. I will let it go. I am sorry.
Excellent!!! Let's move forward with Christ in view.

Lol! That doesn't mean I agree with the other POV that I could not stop responding against. I know I am not perfect. I go from having a very weak faith to no faith. As far as Christian witness, I haven't had one for a long time now. If I did have one I would think it should be one of agape love--a selfless desire for the good of others. This is the kind of love that God has shown to us. It's about reaching out to those who need encouragement and only genuine love can bring that kind of encouragement. It's about caring, which includes praying for others, visiting the lonely, ministering to the sick, comforting those who grieve. It's about Galatians 6:2 and it's about forgiving as in Ephesians 4:32 and it's about forbearing as in Ephesians 4:2 and it's also about submitting as in Ephesians 5:21. There are other things, too, and I fall way short in all of it and have nothing to boast about.
Regarding the"Other POV": Understood and never thought that for a minute, and that is OK.
Bev, sometimes the only Christ that some people can see is the Christ in us. So maybe it does matter how others see us. I wish I could always react the way Christ would react. As you said, we never will all of the time but perhaps we could succeed more than we fail. As far as responding so that it is all about Him, the two people in the disagreement likely both believe that what they believe is all about Him but the danger is when one or maybe both of them actually have a distorted view of Him and that would make what they believe to be in error as well. As far as my Christian witness goes, I know I am a failure. At the same time, I can honestly say that others have failed me in their Christian witness, too. As far as humility goes, Philippians 2:3 probably describes it best and there is no doormat involved.
Three things:
1. humility
2. willingness to respond graciously
3. openness to receive teaching and counsel
These three things should go both ways whenever two people are communicating, not all one-sided. It would make all the difference if we could all be all of these things all of the time.
I fail in many ways. But only by God's grace can anyone succeed anyway.
