Books on the afterlife (heaven/hell)

I have read so many books about personal visits to heaven/hell from a variety of authors. The first one that I read was "A divine revelation of hell" by Mary K. Baxter. I read this book when I was in high school back in the 1996... when I first read it, it scared the crap out of me! I was running around thinking I was going to hell and I was even scared to go to bed at night. Since then, Mary K. Baxter has came out with many other books about divine revelations that God allegedly has given her about heaven, the spirit world, and angels. In one of her books, she has even proclaimed that God personally told her that she was chosen to receive these revelations, and she claimed to have a "burning bush" experience.. something similar to what Moses experienced in the bible. Some of the things that are in her books are so far out and seem so unlike Jesus that it is very difficult to believe.
Since then other authors has came out with similar after life experiences and they quote scriptures to back up their stories about their out of body experiences.
Again, I believe that God can reveal what ever he wants to who ever he chooses and I don't want to call them liars because I have no clue as to whether they are really being honest or not. But I also believe that people come up with things to make money off of, including Jesus and the word of God. All I can do is come up with my own opinion about their story and go from there. I read several of her books, and the last one that I tried to finish I was not able to finish. I felt really uneasy about it and I decided not to finish so I took it back to the library. I have done my research on Mary K. Baxter and found several websites about her that I thought were very interesting.

The only revelations that you will read of is in the Bible, there is nothing to be added or taken away from Scripture. Rev 22:18

in 1958 We had a visit from a man who called himself Brother Fox. He said that he had a Spiritual experience where God allowed him to see what Hell looked like. Guess who was there waiting to uisher him in? None less than Satan, who told him that he was there waiting to meet all the lost souls as they came in. Surely this would be the last place the devil would want to be. I don't accept these come back stories. I may be wrong, concerning them, but as far as I'm concerned the only One who is coming back is the Lord Himself. Amen

Hi Dee Dee,

God is not the author of confusion. If anything you are reading is causing confusion....gracefully back away from it... turn to the Lord in prayer. We do not need to know and understand everything! On the day we meet Jesus... I believe all our questions will be answered..or maybe they will 'melt' away.

The bible tells us all we need to know about heaven and hell. I don't believe that extra information is required.

I have Don Piper's '90 minutes in heaven'... I never actually finished reading it. It's his personal testimony. he talks mostly about his recovery from the accident..physically, emotionally, spiritually.... If I remember correctly, he doesn't go into much detail about what heaven was like....he doesn't claim to have seen inside. He says he smelled heavenly smells...and heard songs of angels--in sounds and smells unlike we have ever smelled or heard...he saw gates which he barely passed thru. (it was a long time ago that I read it..but that's what I remember)

A personal testimony belongs to a person...it is there's. We can't tell them they didn't have it. That's why false prophets can be so successful..(if that is what she is)

I think sometimes our quest for further understanding on certain things can cause confusion! God's Word has everything we need!
