WHO WAS JOHN THE BAPTIST?

A friend was asking me about John the Baptist. I felt that together we all could contribute and give her a good answer.

Hi Bob,
Can we talk weddings for a moment? Jesus Christ is the bridegroom. Israel was his bride. John was Jesus' cousin, friend and best man, a prophet. He paved the way for the arrival of the groom. John's baptizing Jesus opened up Jesus' ministry here on earth.

Jesus and John grew up together and they were friends.
